President’s Message

Adrian Roach – President, Hessle Theatre Company

Hello Everybody

As we move into the final season of City of Culture, “Tell the World” it gives us time to reflect on another wonderful successful year here at Hessle Theatre.Adrian1

I think the year 2017 has exceeded everybody’s wildest expectations and none more so than ours with the Hull New Theatre having been closed for refurbishment in what was such an important year for art and culture.

2017 arrived with the most successful pantomime for years, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Four performances at Hessle Town Hall saw each one sold out.

July saw a classic Hessle musical with The Baker’s Wife; funny, moving and sold out every night at Hull Truck. It was another Oscar winning performance by the cast with all our supporters left in tears at this moving and beautifully performed show.

Some three years ago it was voted we should organise a ‘Ball’ to celebrate Hessle’s huge success and City of Culture year. As time flew round it was decided to throw open invitations to all our sponsors and supporters giving them an evening of entertainment at ‘cost’. A thank you without fundraising. 220 people gathered at Willerby Manor Hotel for this memorable evening of fun laughter and merriment. Opera singer, comedian, party group and the most eloquent entertaining MC. The evening was a huge success with our sponsors being so grateful and appreciative at the generous gesture shown by Hessle Theatre.

March 2018 sees us back at The Hull New Theatre with ‘The Producers’, a beautiful musical by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from the film of the same name. The story is about two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling a Broadway flop. A wonderful twist with great humour ensues. It will be great to be once again in back at the refurbished Hull New Theatre where we hope all our sponsors and supporters will once again come to see a classic production.

This has been my 9th year of Presidency, every day it is both a pleasure and a privilege to represent this wonderfully talented Theatre Company.

Yours, The Most Proud of Presidents.

Adrian Roach

PS see you at the Pantomime, Aladdin, in December.
