Joining Us

Hessle Theatre Company is a non-professional community theatre company, and a registered charity, staging major productions with the highest regard for artistic excellence. We are affiliated to the National Operatic & Dramatic Association (Noda) and we class ourselves as an adult company (16yrs+).  *The exception to this is when a production calls for younger performers to audition. However, we are not a school or an academy and therefore do not run regular classes and workshops.

Our performers are engaged, for each production, through an open audition process and our backstage and front of house teams through an informal interview. We also encourage our acting members, when not performing in a show, to help out behind the scenes in either a back stage or front of house capacity.

Annual membership subscriptions are as follows

New members: £65 (ages 18 and over).
Continuing Members: £60
Members in full time education, unwaged or part-time: £35
Youth Members: £30 (aged under 18)

There are no additional rehearsal fees.

Rehearsal Venue

Our usual rehearsal venue is Hull Collegiate School.  The address is, Hull Collegiate School, Tranby Croft, Anlaby, HU10 7EH.

Commitment

To give you an idea of the commitment for our major musical, music rehearsals typically commence in the first week of September on Monday evenings up until Christmas, 7:30pm to 9:45pm. From January, floor rehearsals are on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings with every other Sunday afternoon up until the show. Dependent on their role in the show performers are called to a proportion of these floor rehearsals, with the full company being required at all rehearsals from 3 weeks before the show.  Performers are expected to attend all the rehearsals that they are called to.

Joining the company

We are a very friendly company and always welcome potential new members.  If you are thinking of joining us you can contact our Membership Secretary and perhaps arrange to meet us at a rehearsal to chat about how you might get involved.

If you are interested in auditioning for any of our shows then please contact our Musical Theatre Secretary when audition information is published on our website.  If you’d like to get involved in a non-performing capacity (backstage or front of house) you can contact us at any time.
