The Bakers Wife Posted on 22nd July 201627th March 2018 by HTC Admin THE BAKER’S WIFE – 18TH TO 22ND JULY 2017, Hull Truck Theatre “The Baker’s Wife” cast Aimable – Neal Edlin Genevieve – Hannah Wilson Dominique – Joe Porte Denise – Samantha Flanagan Claude – David Phillips Marquis – Chris Holmes Teacher – Richard Foot Priest – Terry Halliwell Barnaby – Mark Jardine Hortense – Nicola Wilson Antoine – Joseph Spence Doumergue – James Galer Pierre – Luke Cardwell Simone – Sarah North Nicole – Rachel Waters Inez – Yasmin Roe Therese – Katherine Fitzgerald Philippe – Nathan Major Ensemble: Francois – Luke Gillingham Louis – Kevin Hickson Camille – Christian Brodie Gustave – David Fry Madeleine – Sally Hague Georgette – Lucy Marshall Sophie – Emily Drewry Gabrielle – Elaine Windass Helene – Gill Cowper Celestine – Isabel Walker Marie – Liz Carmichael “The Baker’s Wife” is a fantastic romantic musical comedy written by Stephen Schwartz, the writer of such shows as Godspell and Wicked in conjunction with Joseph Stein, the man behind Fiddler On The Roof. The bickering residents of a rural village in Provence, France in 1935 have been without a baker for seven weeks. They finally find peace and contentment in a newly arrived, middle-aged baker Aimable, and his attractive young wife Genevieve whom they initially mistake for his daughter. However, when Genevieve is lured away by a handsome young gigolo, the baker loses all zest for life and baking. When he refuses to bake, the villagers must put aside their differences and work as a team to bring Aimable and Genevieve back together. It’s in turns funny, romantic, poignant and joyously uplifting, celebrating the power of love, community and forgiveness. This delightful musical showcases some of Schwartz best ever songs (including humorous chorus numbers, power ballads and haunting melodies) with a strong ensemble of quirky characters and many featured roles; it’s what Hessle Theatre Company does best!
