About

Hessle Theatre Company has been creating theatre since it was founded in 1922 as Hessle Operatic & Dramatic Society. We have been presenting an annual musical at Hull New Theatre since 1958, as well as exciting productions at Hull Truck Theatre and other local venues.

Committed to appealing to modern day audiences and performers the company underwent a name change in 2005, and is now trading as the Hessle Theatre Company.

We are a charity, much in demand for concerts and recitals, having performed with the Three British Tenors and at the Classics in the Park. Our concerts have raised funds for such notable charities as the NSPCC, The Parkinson’s Disease Society and The Alzheimer’s Association, and we would encourage you to contact us if you are involved with a charity or group that you think would benefit from a concert evening.

Many past members are now working professionally in ‘live’ theatre, reflecting our dedication to high performance standards.

With a membership of around 100, we are always very keen to attract new talent to join our friendly society, either backstage or in the limelight. If you are looking for an interesting, challenging and enjoyable pastime, then why not join Hessle Theatre Company and be a part of our future productions.

The Company stages two main productions each year.

The Spring production is staged at the Hull New Theatre in March, and is the largest show the company produces each year. Auditions for this are usually in July with rehearsals starting in September.

The Summer/Autumn production is smaller, though equally important, and is staged either at Hull Truck Theatre or another local venue.

Visit our Previous Productions page for a full list of productions.

Between the two productions we also produce a successful Concert Season. Our soloists and Company perform a popular and varied programme of classics, old and new favourites and songs from West End and Broadway shows. Along with these concerts we also perform Christmas Concerts, singing a selection of traditional carols and favourite Christmas songs.
