About

Hessle Theatre Company is a community organisation, a registered charity, and has been creating high quality theatre since it was founded in 1922 as Hessle Operatic & Dramatic Society.

Committed to appealing to modern day audiences and performers the company underwent a name change in 2005, and is now trading as the Hessle Theatre Company.

The Company stages two major musical theatre productions each year followed by a traditional Christmas Pantomime. The Spring production is staged at the Hull New Theatre in March, and is the largest show the company produces each year. Auditions for this are usually in July with rehearsals starting in September.  The Summer production has a smaller cast, suitable for the more innovative stage at Hull Truck Theatre, and rehearses over the summer for a performances week in September. Our traditional and popular family Christmas Pantomime occurs in late November/early December and is staged in the town of Hessle. Visit our ‘Previous Productions’ page for a full list of shows.

We have previously performed with the Three British Tenors and at the Classics in the Park concerts and have raised funds for such notable charities as the NSPCC, The Parkinson’s Disease Society and The Alzheimer’s Association.

Many past members are now working professionally in ‘live’ theatre, reflecting our dedication to high performance standards – we have won over 18 theatre awards and have been acclaimed by NODA and the local press as having a standard equitable to professional touring productions.

Even with a membership of over 100, we are always very keen to attract new talent to join our friendly society, either backstage or in the limelight. If you are looking for an interesting, challenging and enjoyable pastime, then why not get in touch with us at Hessle Theatre Company and you too could be part of our future productions.
