About Hessle

About Hessle Theatre Company

Founded in 1922, Hessle Operatic & Dramatic Society has been creating theatre for 81 years, presenting an annual musical at Hull New Theatre since 1958. Our Drama productions are performed at Hull Truck Theatre.

We are a charity, much in demand for concerts and recitals, having performed with the Three British Tenors and at the Classics in the Park. Our concerts have raised funds for such notable charities as the NSPCC, The Parkinson's Society and The Alzheimer's Association, and we would encourage you to contact us if you involved with a charity or group that you think would benefit from a concert evening.

Many past members are now professionally working in 'live' theatre, reflecting our dedication to high performance standards - we have won over 17 major awards in local drama festivals. With a membership of around 80, adults and children, we are always very keen to attract new talent to join our friendly society, either backstage or in the limelight.

Committed to appealing to modern day audiences and performers the company, in 2005, underwent a name change and are now trading as the Hessle Theatre Company.

Hessle Theatre Company Productions

The Hessle Theatre Company produce two main productions each year.

Spring
This is produced in March at the Hull New Theatre and is the largest show the company produces each year. Professional theatre companies can no longer afford to stage large productions and without the Society the area would not see many of the 'large-cast' musicals.Auditions for this are usually in July with rehearsals starting in September.

Autumn
Although this is a smaller production with fewer performers it is as equally important as it gives the company the prestige of performing at Hull Truck Theatre.

In between the two productions we also produce a successful Concert Season. Our soloists and Company perform a popular and varied programme of classics, old and new favourites and songs from West End and Broadway shows. In the last two years we have performed at the Guildhall, in Hull, for the Altzeimers Society, the NSPCC, The Parkinson Society and for the Jewish Women's Guild in Anlaby. Along with these concerts we also perform Christmas Concerts, singing a selection of traditional carols and favourite Christmas songs.
